The theme of this year's exposition will be "Internet connects the world. Innovation leads to the future".

What a load of twaddle.

So you'll not be taking the bus down there to cover it ?

Seems the blinkered net has narrowed.

what else you expect to find on a site that's own by a Chinese news agency. All the content on that site is censored by the Chinese government, and there should be no sense of surprise that they publish officially sanitised news.

Go to the country, and you'll realise that things can be a little different - Chinese people are used to finding ways to beat the censors.

No Government site will ever give an unbiased the UK Govt. site and some of the facts and figures are somewhat surprising. It is slightly unfair to single out China.

"It is slightly unfair to single out China."

Can't agree there, while there may be a few more repressive regimes out there ( North Korea springs to mind ). They aren't engaged in the same amazingly successful hearts and minds campaign that China is using on the business concerns and governments of the outside world. There are a lot of parties who are aware of the situation but find it expedient to ignore.

Comparing the UK government with China is ridiculous I don't remember tanks slaughtering students in Trafalgar Square

I don't remember the Chinese Governmant saying that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq or that the situation in Afghanistan was under complete control.

There are many forms of censorship and anyone who thinks that our Govermant does not censor the news is barking. personally I would heed what the FE has said, if you have to China and worked there I would take a pinch of salt with any 'news' reports.

...should be 'if you have never been to China'......

Don’t know where all this is leading – probably the delete button.

Tian'anmen Square is history so if we go down that route the British also have their history. Not Trafalgar Square but foreign fields where we carried out some very brutal acts where people were slaughtered. Or is there a limit as to how far back we judge a nation. So if we are comparing countries no one can be holier than thou when taking history into account.

Making stereotype judgments from headlines gives only an incomplete picture – go, see and experience will give a better one. They have their faults and benefits just like we do – they have censorship so do we.

The situation in China is indefensible whether you have been there or not.

The sole reason China is tolerated and North Korea is not is simply the billions of pounds available to be made in China.
