My faith in human beings has been restored today and I now know that at least one company in this country is capable of providing a service above and beyond expectations.
My car died and slowed to a halt at the roadside this morning, in the rush hour. The breakdown service (I won't advertise) told me the maximum amount of time I would have to wait and said that they would text me with an eta. They did within minutes and they arrived when the text said they would which was less than half an hour from my initial call.
The man made a valiant attempt to get my car going again, explained his thought and diagnostic process. He identified the fuel pump as the likely culprit very early on but checked all of the other possibilities just in case. He braced me for the likely cost and recommended a local fuel injection specialist garage rather than my own main dealer. (By this afternoon I discovered that he was bang on with the diagnosis, the price and the garage, my own garage quoted almost half again for the job).
I was offered the option of recovery to home/garage or wherever I wanted. He took my car to the garage, took me to work and arraged for a hire car to be delivered to me. I had no idea my cover extended to a hire car.
What could have been a miserable morning for me has actually left me pleasantly surprised.

People are quick to name and shame in the Forums sometimes.
Why not name and praise?
I got treated more or less the same at 02.00 hrs one night recently. I had a tow all the way home, because he couldn't get it going.. Then the next morning a man from the local garage arrived and took my car in for a replacement part. All arranged by a "very nice man" Name of the organisation.. The Automobile Association.
It was indeed the AA.
I called out the AA to a dead car last year.
It took them 30 minutes to get to us and then two hours to get a taxi to drive us twenty miles home, a taxi which my disabled wife, who they were advised about, had a great deal of difficulty getting in and out of.
A letter of complaint didn't didn't even get an acknowledgement.
Having said that, I've been a member for nigh on 40 years and that's the first time I've had a problem, but again, it's the first time I've had to use them since the take-over.
I agree totally with Palaeobill,
called them out to company van eighteen months ago and they were spot on. The guy arrived within 2 minutes of the text they sent and explained exactly what he thought was wrong. The van was stuck on a country road so he said he would stay until the recovery truck arrived as he was worried that the hazard warning lights were not sufficient enough for where I was stuck. He stayed for twenty minutes with his big flashing lights going and helped the recovery driver load the van on to the back of his truck.
Top man and top service.
Having used both the AA & RAC in the last couple of years I've got to say they both provide a fantastic service.
A couple of years ago 3 days after taking delivery of my current car my wipers decided to pack in, in the middle of nowhere between Buxton & Macclesfield, on a very dark night, in a heavy snow storm.
My sat-nav was in my other car, and as this was only the second time I'd taken this route I had no clear idea where I was.
I phone the AA, contrary to a current myth at the time, they weren't able to triangulate my position from my mobile signal, but said they had a good idea what road I was on and they'd send a patrol looking for Skoda with it's hazards on.
About 20minutes later I got a call from the AA driver, he said he'd be a while because a female had just called and she took priority. He asked me to describe my location, he quickly guessed where I was and advised there was a pub about 1/4 mile up the road. He told me to go there and he'd come & get me when he'd finished with the female driver.
3 hours later he arrived, paid for the two coffees and sandwich I'd had, drove me back to my car, fixed the wipers (dodgy fuse) and sent me on my way.
Now that's service...
