Brazilian police have shot dead a three-year-old boy after apparently mistaking the car he was travelling in for a vehicle carrying armed suspects.

Two officers in Rio de Janeiro fired at least 15 times at the car, hitting the boy, Joao Roberto Amaral, in the head. He died later in hospital.

His mother was hit by shrapnel while his nine-month-old brother was unhurt.

Having lived and worked in South America on a number occasions, this type of news doesn't make interesting reading. Guns and there usage is an every day event, as sad as it may appear.

I often use to say in the times I lived there, that I hope the UK doesn't become like this. It as eventually caught up. Welcome to the modern world.
