Big Brother

I've a reasonable idea of what it means, but I'm looking for something more exact. What does "Lowest Common Denominator" mean, as in "Watched by"?

In mathematics, the lowest common denominator or least common denominator is the least common multiple of the denominators of a set of vulgar fractions. It is the smallest number - above zero - that is a multiple of the denominators.

But I guess you meant the other meaning ;-)

to say that something (Big brother?) is watched by 'the lowest common denominator', but in non-mathematical use, the term is commonly used to refer to the target audience of rubbish TV programming, as in 'this is aimed at the lowest common denominator' i.e. unintelligent people who like tacky TV shows.

Nobody like that in this forum, then.

What program is that then? ..Bingalau..

Thanks for your replies, that's roughly what I thought it meant. I assume it came from the mathematic meaning, but I can't quite see the connection.
