My pc has a zip drive and until now i didnt realise it was different from a floppy drive! The thing is i put in an ordinary floppy and it jammed, had to prise it out with a knife so i think i mght have wrecked the drive, anyway wheres the best place to get the disks for a zipdrive, and how do i no if it takes 100mb or 250 mb? or does it not matter?

A 50mb Drive will take 100 or 250 mb disks.

A 100 mb drive wil only take 100mb disks.

I think J2KIIs first sentence should read: A 250mb Drive will take 100 or 250 mb disks.

It would be unusual for a pre-installed Zip drive to be 250MB as these are appreciably more expensive than a 100MB. Likewise, 250MB disks are more expensive than 100MB.

Have a careful look at the economics of using Zip disks and compare prices with considerably larger CDs.

Zip drives are tending to be a bit old fashioned now and even Iomega, the inventors, are moving over to CD and portable hard disks for storage in preference to their Zip disks.

If you look in device manager, under disk drives the IOMEGA drive is listed as either a 100, 250 or 750.

Hope this help's you discover what size your drive is.

If your zip drive is an Iomega, look closely at the "Zip" logo on the bottom left of the facia - on mine it has 250 running vertically following "Zip".

Yes sorry that should be

A 250mb Drive will take 100 or 250 mb disks.
A 100 mb drive wil only take 100mb disks

In device manager it dosnt mention a zip drive! It says standard floppy disk drive,on the facia it just says zip drive, its blue with just a green light but no buttons (is there meant to be?)

Looking under the section in device manager for HDD and NOT floppy disk drives. It's odd, but because a zip drive is IDE it is listed under the HDD section.

The green light will double as an eject button (or it does on my beige model!) You might find software, links to manuals, etc. under start\ (all) programmes.
