Zip downloads show as Word with garbage

  Catastrophe 09:28 08 Dec 06

I have made two large downloads (approx 30 minutes each) and in each case they show up as MS Word filled with gibberish. The download sees itself as a Zip.

I am running McAfee Security Centre.

I am able to receive normal downloads as well.

Any ideas please?

Can you post links to the downloads, please.

Thank you for that link. I don't know how Zip get changed into Word files but it could be malware.

However, apart from McAfee I am running Adaware, Spybot SandD,and Spyware Blaster and have found no problems.

Hi VOG. One is files for WinTV Express. Go Support and in 4th box down on LHS. I'll look for the other.

I'm on click here - what's the name of the download?

I believe the other was Talisman Dwesktop:

Yes, Talisman Desktop 2.98. Although this is small.

(Not Dwesktop!)

I've downloaded and it opens normally (I've tried it on a PC with no other unzipping software than Windows own).

Try right clicking it and selecting 'Open With' and click Choose program, click on 'Compressed (zipped) Folders' and tick 'Always use this program to open this type of file'.

Strange, I've lost a post, so I'll repeat.

Do you see it as a MS Word icon? (I do).

This PC (internet only) is on Win98SE and on right click I get only Open and not open with.

I am trying to open the original file instead of saving to HD.

If I R-click>Properties I get a Word icon but file type says Zip file.
