When trying to rename a hard disk when browsing "my computer", i get an error message stating "You Do Not Have Sufficient Rights To Perform This Operation" which is displayed in an "Invalid Volume Label" Window...

I am in the Administrators group and also get this error message when logged on as Admin...

Checked permissions and group policies although i only formatted and clean installed a few days ago so XP is still set at default configuration...

Check for virii with AVG 7.0 (updated today), no trojans or spyware...

I want to rename a new HDD i've added for keeping Backups on...

Win XP Pro SP1...

Thanks in advance

Right click My Computer>Manage>Disk Management

you will now see all your drives

Right click the drive you want to assign a new letter to.

Change drive letter

cheers for the reply but i want to change the name of the drive, not the drive letter assignment by right-clicking on it and selecting rename then calling it Backup, instead of "docs" which is what another drive i have installed is called...
