Y-connector for mouse and keyboard.

"It" is a Time Traveller A520K7 laptop running Windows XP/Home/SP2. "It" has a single PS2 connector for an external mouse or keyboard but the "handbook" (laughingly called) says that both items can be simultaneously connected if a Y-connector is obtained. I've done this and it doesnt work----the keyboard side of the Y-connector seems dead, though it works OK on another machine. I've had a look in BIOS without any luck. Any suggestions?

An easier option might be a PS2 - USB convertor if you have a spare USB port.
