HI all I have now fixed the problem with the CPU speed and it is now running @ 1.8 as it should be. However when I try to install Windows XP Professional it fails and restarts the machine automactially. I format the HDD as NTFS filing system and it starts to copy the files required for the installtion off the CD. However it randomly says that it can not find a file(S) required. I have cleaned the CD, I have also tried another copy of XP borrowed off a friend. Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem is and how 2 fix it.

Thanks in adavanced

I would take your reformat one step further and write all the disk back to zeros. You might have picked up a magnetic error on your disk. I have encountered this a few times but when I have zeroed the disk it all then happens ok.To do this you might need software from the disk manufacturers web site.

Try changing the ram.

When you first format, and start the install from CD, are you getting as far as the first time XP re-boots your PC to continue?

If you are, as it re-boots, you will see a message on-screen to, "Press any key to continue". You must not do this, let your PC continue with the install by itself. If you press any keys you will find yourself in an endless loop of booting. j.

hi all fanx for ur help so far. I fort it was a memory problem so i took out one of the stikcs of sdr ram (128mb) and just left one stick in there (128mb) and it fixed the problem HOWEVER when XP tries 2 install it now comes up with a blue screen half way through stating "Kernel_STACK_Inpape_Error

***STOP: 0x00000077 (0x0000000e 0x0000000e 0x00000000 0x001b7000***

Anyone knows what this means and a solution on how 2 fix it. Fanx

Think it still maybe memory problem, make sure the stick is in the first slot and pushed fully home. Also remove that one and try the other stick on it's own. j.
