XP virus protection recognition and Avast...

I'm sure that my XP security center status alert used to recognise my Avast anti virus, but now it states: Virus protection not found... Red shield symbol etc.

Why might this be? Is your copy of Avast 'recognised' by XP?

XP recognises my Avast without any problems, and always has.

Is your version of Avast updated to latest version?

If you are sure it works, you can tun off the notification.

"Is your version of Avast updated to latest version?"

It should be because Avast auto-updates.

I suggest you uninstall and re-install Avast

Maybe - but I tell my Avast to update virus definitions only; I do a manual update of the program when I am ready, not when Avast decides it wants to.
