XP System Ownership Change

  chessman2 08:49 07 Jan 08

Hi, I want to change my old XP PC ownership from my name to the name of the person who will be the new owner. Details as shown in Show System which show my name and the windows product code, also I assume that if this changes it will also change the user account as displayed at log on. Is the only way to do these changes is in the registry?
If so any problems I need to be aware of?
Any help with this would be appreciated.

To change the “Registered To” name, go to Start > Run, type regedit, press Enter and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion and look for Registered Owner and/or Registered Organisation, then change the wording accordingly.

There will be a lot more registry entries bearing your name, like ‘installed by’ and ‘downloaded by’ which can be changed but it can be a tad tedious. Blanket changes from name A to name B are not recommended.

You could also create an account for the new owner and delete your account and data.

Assuming you also have the original XP disc you will need to pass that to the new owner as well complete.
