XP Start up screen

when i start up XP and i need to select which account i want to start up on, there is a line under the name saying how many e-mails there is waiting for me, but this figure is always wrong, and even after i have read them they are still there... ... ... ...

dos eanyone know how i can fix or get rid of this

I had this after I installed Outlook instead of the incumbent Outlook Express. I had to ensure that XP knew that I was using using Outlook at every stage as otherwise it was reporting the information that it held in Outlook Express. Make sure your settings in Internet Options>Programs are correct, then have a look in your email Account settings and remove any accounts which are defunct. If you recognise this and are no longer using Outlook Express, then work around it but don't uninstall OE (I did, and Outlook itself stopped working - don't ask me why!).
