XP start up

Whilst the desktop appears within 30 seconds, the programmes on the Start menu and access to the internet (connect to . . .) are not operative for fully three minutes. On my other, newer computer, everything is available within half a minute. Any ideas, please?

There is a programme released by Microsoft called Bootvis which, when run, will show you where any bottlenecks are during your boot sequence. It appears quite regularly on the "free" CDs given by the various computer mags, or you can download it from Bill himself.

Thank you ams4127. I have downloaded Bootvis but hadn't realised it could show 'bottlenecks'. I'll try that and thanks again. George

Hope it works George. If not, come back and we'll try something else!
