XP SP3 installation problems

I cannot install SP3 on my system. I keep getting the error message "update.inf file is not correct". Any ideas on how to fix this.

Tried installing it via safe mode + ran the dial-a-fix program and ccleaner but still it refuses to install.

Currennt system: Windows XP SP2
Model: Packard Bell Igo6000 series laptop

I have seen this error before and it was Windows Media Player that was corrupt.
Try reinstalling your WMP if version 11,just reinstall over the top click here

And reboot the system and try sp3 again.

You may need to uninstall/rollback wmp to version 10 and reinstall 11.

Tried both those methods, still not working.

Did you temporarily disable your AV?

Also, I think it might just be possible that the latest Windows Update Agent could make a difference: click here
