XP SP3 download problem

I am trying to download XP SP3 from the Microsoft Download Centre in order to manually install it and improve my PC's configuration and security etc (and as SP2 is no longer supported!). The download gets so far (about 32% of 316Mb) and then IE bombs out with the following message:

"IE cannot download PKB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe from xpsp.dlservice.microsoft.com
An internal error occured in the Microsoft Internet Extensions"

If anyone can suggest what I can do to get a clean download I would be very grateful. I've had a look at the IE options but I'm not sure what I need to do.
Thanks.

That's the one that worked for me and others (there have been lots of posts on various forums recently)

I downloaded mine a year ago from MS website.

It's the network version but can be used for standalone home user.

Other versions froze for me during install.

Google WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe and try another download source
