XP slow boot after memory upgrade?

I wondered if anyone could help me...

I upgraded the memory in my computer (which is a shuttle SN41G2 with the FN41 motherboard) today. All seems fine and it is noticeably faster but when it boots and gets to the XP screen it takes much longer. It also freezes for a while, as if it's just not going to go anywhere. Then, finally, it boots after a lengthy pause, and after that, everything (so far) seems a lot faster. I only had 256MB ram and have put a 1Gb stick in alongside it.

I don't know a lot about computers but is it something to do with dual/single channel mode or memory sticks that are not compatible with each other?

In the manual it says you can install memory in any combination, though.

Hmm..any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Try swapping the memory.
i.e put 1GB in slot 1 and 256 in slot 2.

Or try with just 1Gb in and see if it makes any difference.
