XP Shutdown responds 2nd time

Hi,

Recently (about 2 months now) my computer started to not shut down when I press the shutdown button. It does not happen always, but most of the time when I press shutdown again, it will shutdown. Any ideas why I have to tell it to do this twice? On the first attempt, it will usually kill a few programs, but some will still keep running and the system would still be on and allow you to run new processes.

A few friends also said they have recently been experiencing this and the problem has only appeared recently, before, shutting down only required pressing that button once.

Thanks,

Charence
