When I first click;
Start=>Turn Off=>Turn Off nothing happens, except any open programs may close, the second time I repeat the sequence Windows XP shuts down properly.

Any Ideas?

I heard of this.

sfc /scannow may solve windows but it could be hardware.

Umm, I will have a look around for you.

Gareth

Go to control panel click system click hardware click device manager click view click show hidden devices click on IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers if it has a red dot showing enable this device if it is already enabled then this thread will be no use to you.

I had this problem and cured it.

What my problem was that Roxio DVD maker was not emptying its temp folder.

So what i did was empty every temp folder i could find and bingo Windows shut down quicker than ever before.

Maybe it checks all its folders before closing??

Give it a try as temp folders should be cleared after use anyway but they never are.
