XP Safe Mode   Have a Restore problem with a laptop where F8 on Startup doesn't get into Safe Mode but shows a Bootup list.

Windows Help gives the following sequence:   Click Start - Shut Down - Shut Down - Restart - OK. When "Please select the operating system to Start" appears Press F8, Safe Mode/ENTER.   I cant make this work as Shut Down doesn't appear only the Turn Off Computer icon.   Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

When you get to the boot up list keep tapping F8 and it should take you to the Advanced Options Menu to select safe mode. You could also try tapping F5 on boot-up.

rdave Thank you for the solution. Both worked for me.
