Iam installing XP on an old machine and the installation goes OK till the first restarting Windows comes up and the PC restarts but boots to the CD again and commences the reinstallation of Windows.
Have tried several times but always with the same result. Help appreciated.

Temporarily remove the CD (or open the drive door) during the initial boot sequence when first restarting. G

at first boot you should remove the cd as soon as it starts to shut down

Thanks for input but as PC does beeb at start up I think there is a hardware fault. However used Puppy Linux and managed to access the files I was looking for on the harddrive and can now return the PC to the cellar.

It's very normal for a PC to do a single beep at startup. G
