XP - renaming a Windows System folder

  Leslie 12:34 28 May 04

XP has the following folder and path -- C:\Documents and Settings\ "USERNAME"\MyDocuments.

I need to alter the username component (it's only to add my surname) so that another software programme can access the files in this path. I've tried going through the Registry but to no avail and I certainly don't want to format and reload the whole OS programmes. I realise that altering this path will need some alteration in registry but I'm stuck at the moment.
