xp reinstaller

i have a pc which belongs to a friend who has win xp on he has done something that has corupted the system i have repaired xp with a xp cd and all is well till u reboot then it boots up sometimes and i just get a pop up saying that windows file protection has found illegal files if i click ok it,s ok till the next reboot when it gets to the bar at the bottom of the screen then just stops and i have to repair again to get it to boot i think this is to do with a differant xp disk and wfp still has the old files in does anyone know a way out of like deleteing the dllcache folder i know you can turn off wfp but it,s quite involved to do proprely and i can,t reformat to much valublr info thanks andy.
