XP reinstall problem

  Alan Terry 14:15 20 Nov 04

On trying to reinstall XP Home on a new (Maxtor 80Gb) hard drive, the process stops at or about the formatting the drive stage. The whole process seems to just hang.
This is with the default BIOS settings.
Have tried countless times as we thought it was a faulty drive the first time (now tried two new ones). It used to get just through the driver etc loading then stop.
I've read alot of the similar problems and tried out a few things, but no luck so far.
Is this a XP issue?
The PC did work for a few months on the original drive which was declared faulty eventually, so I don't think there is a conflict problem.
Any ideas gratefully received.

Try formatting the drive before attempting to load xp. You need a windows98 startup disc in your A drive and tell the bios to boot first to the floppy. you can then run fdisk and format on your hard drive using the dos commands. Then try loading xp but remove the win98 floppy first.

also format using NTFS
