XP reinstall blocked

I reverted to Windows 98 to attempt to fix a problem I was having with Windows XP Pro. Windows did not restore properly after roleback so I reinstalled Windows 98 and fixed the problem.

Now when I attempt to reinstall windows XP it is blocked because it finds more than one operating system.

Help please

Make a 98 boot disk that contains sys.com. Boot up on it and type in "sys c:" [actual command minus the ""]. You can then delete the boot files for XP

In the root folder of drive C (or the boot drive), delete the following files:

and try again.

have you more than one hard drive/partition?

if so did you install windows on seperate drives or upgrade 98 to XP, if you used seperate drives ie c: and d: for windows then you should be able to just delete the windows XP folder.

then try again to install XP.

if it was an upgrade then you may be better to format drive c and start again.

good luck

I only have one partition. How would I rcognise the XP folder.

I attempted the SYS C: and delete. Could not find ntbootdd.sys but deleted the other two. There were a number of files starting with NT but did not delete.

Attempted reinstall but had the same problem.
