Xp recovery

I have a pc which says it has a unmountable boot error on it when i switch it on. I have tried booting from the cd rom to install again but it wont, I have also got the 6 disks install from microsoft which tells me to go to the recovery console once it has loaded them.

my problem is that i cant run CHKDSK in the console. It says its not there, I cant run FIXBOOT either.

Would I be able to reformat the drive from the recovery console as in FORMAT *.* and then reload win XP. I thin the recovery program is not loaded on my machine.

You can solve this by using an old Win 95 or 98 emergency disk.

It will allow you to use the CD drive, and run XP install, whicjh will check all your drives, it will also give you a few other tools.

The question is how did you put this on the net if your computer is down?
