XP Pro start up error message.

I recently upgraded my motherboard and processor (AMD64 3500+) and took the opportunity to do a clean reinstall of windows XP Pro. After full start up I now get an error message box:
C:\Windows\System32\Command.com
C:\Windows\Ststem32\Autoexec.NT
The system file is not suitable for running MSDOS and Microsoft Windows apps. Choose close to terminate the app.
I then have a choice of 2 buttons 'CLOSE' & 'IGNORE'

Any one any suggestions??

I don't think I can help with this.

What does happen when you click 'close' and ditto 'ignore' though?

Knowing this might be useful for those who can help.

Sorry for not being much help.

Thanks for suggestions.
1 on clicking either of the boxes the system runs as normal (is windows normal??)

2. the second suggestion looks very useful, and I will study

Thanks again
