XP pro start-up delay

An irritation more than a problem but after an upgrade to an Asus K8N board with AMD 64 3000+ and running XP pro I have a delay on initial start up of about 10 seconds. Pressing the "go" button has no effect until the mains power has been on for about 10 seconds when it will then burst into life and all the usual lights start flashing and boot-up is then normal. Holding the button pressed causes a click from the speakers every second until boot commences (sounds just like auto-ignition on a gas burner)

Any ideas?
