i seem to have a number of new services running in my now slower machine, have run cc cleaner etc, i seem to recall the use of start/run services msc ( not sure if i have that bit right ) but i can not get the list up to alter the running of them.

Start > run and type msconfig then startup tab and untick all the ones you don't want running all of the time

Try start>run msconfig and the Services tab for the list.
