1) Control Panel, User Accounts, 'Change the way users log on or off.

2) Start, Run, type

control userpasswords2

and click OK. Advanced tab.

Hi, thanks, yes the first thing fixed it all. As soon as I changed the way users log on and off, then pressing ctrl+alt+del produced the task manager as usual.
