Looking for help with PC going into standby for no apparent reason.

Athlon 1.4, 256Mb PC2100, 40Gb 120GXP IBM HD, GeForce3 running WINXP Pro.

I can be playing a game or just using media player and it goes to standby. Sometimes after 10 minutes sometimes after 10 hours. Not a heat problem as CPU is running around 45 degrees.

Any ideas ?

May be teaching you to suck eggs here, but have you checked your Power Settings in Control Panel?

I'm actually at my friends machine now and I have looked at the settings for power management in the BIOS and they are set-up as manual states. In XP I have them set as follows :

Minimal Power Management
Turn off monitor, hard disks and system standby never.

Could you reccomend anything else ???

Try selecting the ALWAYS ON setting and altering the Monitor settings to NEVER. See if that helps
