XP Pro - Closing network connections?

Couple of questions that may be related. I spent some time yesterday having a good clean out on my computer and doing a bit of tweaking here and there. I also installed Ad-aware 6 Pro with Ad-Watch. Since then each time I want to shut down or restart I have to do it twice. I hit shut down and the Ad-Watch icon goes from the tray to the right of the task bar. Then it does nothing and I have to click shut down again (or restart) I have Ad-Watch configured to load with Windows. Also I now get a 'Closing Network Connections' message on shut down whereas I used to just get 'Saving settings' and 'Windows is shutting down' Are these anything to do with Ad-adware or have I tweaked something I shouln't have done. It's a stand alone computer running WinXP Pro
