XP mistakenly wants software for devices?

  seventy 19:36 01 Sep 07

Hi, when connecting my Zen stone MP3 player or Sandisk U3 Cruzer Micro instead of displaying them as on screen folders that I can drag and drop with, the hardware update wizard demands that software is installed, searches for it then says there was a problem installing the hardware so I'm unable to use the devices.

Both devices work instantly with the XP Media Edition pc I use at work so I can't see what's wrong here?

Any solutions?

Thanks in advance for any responces.

Refresh USB Ports
In device manager Uninstall EVERYTHING under the heading USB,
reboot the PC let XP find and install new hardware.
Your equipment should now be recognised.

Hi, thanks for the replies. Had my pc rebooted in the end, it wasn't allowing my modem to work & many other probs - all better now & all devices working touch wood.
