Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Home Edition

PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233-MHz minimum required;* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended

128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)

1.5 gigabyte (GB) of available hard disk space.*
Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor

CD-ROM or DVD drive

You are going to get a mixed market of opinions on this subject. Some are going to say best thing since the bread slicer was invented. Other's are going to say 'Not on your life' I would rather have a leg amputated. My personal opinion is (and I'm running Windows 98se) NO!.

at least your honest i had 98se before and wasnt keen abit on the plain side , but dont take the wrong way

I say it is, it makes W98se feel useless. very few crashes even then you can close the offending programme and sometimes even save the work you would have lost under W98.

Gives you a quicker boot up.
Far easier to configure, when I install XP I don't have to put in my drivers for Printer (HP) and even the driver somehow works straight away for the modem amongst other items. I now feel that I would not like to go back to anything earlier than Win XP.

Then again have you considdered the filing system? using NTFS is far less wastefull than FAT 32 and much more secure. I could go on for much longer but I think you get the picture.

The best is a dual boot of Win98SE and XP. Get rid of ME (I can hear the whining now!!) XP is really stable (unless you start installing the updates - I don't know what's wrong with MS this time - start with a great OS and then bugger it it up!). But you also need Win98 to run some of the older games and other older software. But you then get the best of both worlds!!!!
