Can anyone please tell me how you install Windows XP on to your computer when the setup file cannot be accessed in DOS mode? Many thanks.

An XP disk is bootable so set your system to boot from the cd-rom and it should detect the XP disk and start the setup process. If for some reason it will not boot from the cd-rom you can start the setup from within your present OS.

A Clean Install From the WinXP CD

Partitioning, Formatting, and Installing
From the WinXP CD, there are three choices

1. To set up ?..

2. To repair?..

3. To quit?..

For a new setup, choose "To set up". At the next licensing agreement screen, press F8 to proceed.

The next screen gives three options

1. To set up on the highlighted partition

2. To create a new partition

3. To delete the highlighted partition

Choose item 3 if you want to do a clean install on a drive that contains an earlier version of windows and thnt to do a clean install on a drive that contains an earlier version of windows and then choose item 2.

Choose 2 if you want to set up one or more partitions on a new drive after deleting partitions.

Choose 1 if you have already created and formatted an empty partition

After you choose set up on the new partition, you will be given the option of selecting the type of formatting, FAT32 or NTFS. NTFS is highly recommended.
