What is the DIFFERANCE in XP Home and XP MEDIA CENTRE.

I use XP Home and someone told me to get XP Media Centre-- WHY-- I dont use the PC for anything other than PC work !!!

Stick with what you have - no point in getting Media version if you have home.

Xp Media Center is a 'fancy' interface effectively bolted on-top of XP to make it more friendly for a home media experience. You can switch back to XP but it basically presents you with options like:

My Video
My Pictures

and tools to record, look up programmes etc. etc.

Doesn't sound like you need it. People who go round recommending it without good reason should be avoided ;)

Yep. Agree entirely. It came with my new PC but unless I was going to go serious media center from my PC there is no real advantage over normal XP.

And those who don't have it already (me included) but want its functions (me NOT included) could save a few quid by using 3rd-party software that does the same thing.

I agree 100% with Silverou's sensible comment.
