Hi All
I am trying to update a mate's laptop Packard Bell XP home SP1, i have SP2 on disc, but keep getting a error message when trying to install.
" The System cannot find the file specified" installation did not complete.

I have tried installing sp2 in safe mode, and running sfc /scannow, but still the same error.

I tried a repair installation using my XP home disc, but this would not complete as there were errors found when copying files.

I have run crap cleaner,AVG antivirus and nothing is found.
It's a genuine copy of XP home, and wondered if anyone had any ideas how to fix.
Thanks.

Both symptoms of the Drive not reading the CDs correctly.

Try a "lens cleaner" in the drive and try cleaning / polishing the disks.

I have tried 2, sp2 discs but it's the same problem with both discs, they almost complete installation then the error pops up.

Other programs install ok from cd rom.
