XP Home Password Problem

  Mr A! 12:05 21 Sep 05

One of my friends has just received his new xp home computer. He set the Owner account password to 123, confirmed it and logged out. Now, when he tries to login, XP is saying the password is incorrect.

The only other account on the pc is a limited account.

What should he do as we have no idea!!!

Re-install XP

Boot the PC in safe mode (keep tapping F8 when booting the PC), go to control panel, user accounts. You will then be able to access the admin account, and either remove or change the password.

Restart the machine, and you should be able to enter the new password and continue.

Hope this helps.

1 poss. is that when he set the pword 123, he used the number keypad and the number lock was turned off, so when he thourght he entered a pword, he didn't.

If this is what he did, then try entering without inputting a pword.

Another is that he used the numbers at the top of the keyboard and that the caps lock was accidentially in use, so instead of 123, he may have input !"£ (or any permutation, if he hit hte capslock key during inputting the pword, though this is more doubtful).

Hope this helps.
