Hi Re this post yesterday is it possible on repair install with Dell xp disk that these files are in another folder? Also would sfc /scannow sort this and should it be run in safe mode.
Thanks trying to get a friends machine back on internet.

IE6 should be there somewhere but it's unlikely that Dell would have included Outlook as that's part of Microsoft Office as opposed to being part of Windows. Or do you mean Outlook Express, which is part of Windows?

Thanks for replies it was Outlook Express and have found the site you mentioned but it says logged on as administrator. As it is XP home should it run ok with re-install disk or should it be in safe mode.

Thanks for help sorry if I am a bit slow here, first problems with xp.

You do not need to use Safe Mode
1. Use the System File Checker tool to scan all of the protected files on your computer: a. Click Start, and then click Run.
b. In the Open box, type sfc /scannow, and then click OK.
It should work with your reinstall disc, but it won't do any damage even if it doesn't work for some reason.
