XP Home boot up problem

Hi all, can anyone suggest what's happened here?

When first switched on the PC starts to load normally then stops after checking the drives and memory etc., and the user has to press F1 to continue.

After a moment it then moves to another screen where it states that the C: drive is about to be checked if any key is not pressed first. If allowed to run it does a full disc check. If a key is pressed or the check is completed it then gets to the normal Windows XP loading screen and everything is fine after that.

Possibly a sign that Windows is detecting problems with the hard drive. It may be worth downloading a disk testing tool from the hard drive manufacturers site and running that.

Also make sure you have backups of your important stuff.
