Hope someone out there can help. Started computer up a usual two mornings ago and all I got was up to the end of all the on screen checks showing a flashing cursor. So I dug out XP disk, put it in and went through the repairing XP problem which seemed to go well and HD light was flashing away as it was being written to. But after it did it`s stuff I was back to the flashing cursor again. Tried cmos boot sequence every way you can emagine to no avail. Swapped all cables but no luck. It just does not seem to be telling the hard drive to start up but all the evidence says that it is trying. Pulling out lumps of hair at the moment. Can anyone help? Please.......?

This can happen if you have a printer or scanner switched on before you start-up.
