XP Doesn't Recognise 2nd HD after re-install

Hi guys - your help will be appreciated BIG time on this one, here goes:
Just re-installed XP on my C drive sucessfully; except XP fails to read my D drive (200gig of goodies previously in NTFS format). XP states that the drive is in RAW format & is prompting me to format it. The drive is a maxtor. If I use maxtors utilities this would identify & also format it. The D drive was previously working fine therefore i have not done anything to D drive. It would be a real hassle to recover such a large volume of data post-format, so wondered if anyone had any clues to enable xp to reach my files. Many Thanks, Martin.

Brings up quite a few solutions but i've never tried any of them so can't comment...

I had this problem a few weeks back. Make sure the bios is set to LBA. Go into start; programmes; admin tools; computer management look for disc management. The drive should be seen and can be made active. Hope that helps. Gordon.
