XP default password

I'm sure I've read somewhere, either in the mag or on this forum, that there is a default XP Administrator password, that should be used if you have not set one up. I've searched the helproom threads but can't seem to find this anywhere.

Am I imagining this? If not, can someone enlighten me to what the password is?

The default is NO password - just hit return

Yeah, I've read this on some of the threads but I'm certain that I've read somewhere that it is 0000 or 9999. I tried 0000, then I tried the password on my admin account (twice), but after entering 3 incorrect entries, I was chucked out. So restarted everything and this time I was not asked for a password, but just given the option of setup from C:\Windows. I selected that and now it just hangs....

Any ideas what I can do (trying to avoid a complete install as backups are a few weeks old)?

There is no default password in XP. A clean instal may be the only option.
