XP crashing and hanging

  Nigelblueboy 21:33 02 Jul 03

Hi all, I have a very annoying problem when I start up my pc.. every time it either hangs or crashes within a couple of minutes. I reboot using the reset on the pc and usually after a couple of scan disks the problem is resolved until I power down then power up again... then the whole process starts again. I have done all the usual checks, i.e. defrag, scan disk etc but still no joy.

Go to start, run, and type msconfig.
In the startup tab uncheck any program that you don't actually need at start up (you can always recheck them later).

If that works for you, re-check the startup programs one at a time (and restart)until you find the one that's causing youre troubles.

Do a system restore back to before the problem started (Start>All Progs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore). You will lose programs that have been installed after the date you choose but not documents etc.
