i've just put 512 ram in my 2.4 amd it's running at 1048 ram but now it keep crashing.I am using an asus a7n8x
i would have thought its a bios setting, i have never heard of problems with xp not liking 1gb of ram
Try taking it out again, see if it fixes it.
Would agree with explicitlyrics100. Enter BIOS and make sure that your memory timimg is set to default. Also something as simple as removing the RAM module and re-seating it can help. An improperly seated RAM module can cause all kinds of problems.
yeh sometimes rearranging the order (so newer is first bank...) of the chips can solve problems. Its just a feature of memory being made so different
could it be becasue it's a different brand to the other 2 sticks
Compatability between different Manf of ram always has been an issue.Always better to buy as a matched pair, may cost a bit more but if it works properly so what.
It can also make a difference if you put your sticks into slots 3 & 4 instead of the obvious 1 & 2. (or 2&3 if you only have 3 slots)
musiclady,I take it you are running 1x 512Mb, and 2x 256 modules.Try removing all ram and boot computer for approx 5 seconds to discharge ram, then put the 512 module into dimm1 and the other 2 into dimms 3 & 4.
