my friend has a xp pro pc and it has started to crash when he goes on the internet.

He has just signed up with bt openworld on a dial up and he has his pc set to 4 different users.
when he goes on the net, after a few mins a screen comes up and says that the pc will shut down in 1min and then it countdowns, and then reboots his pc.

Is this caused by spy software or things like it or is it better to wipe everything. he bought the pc from a friend so i dont know if he has the original discs for xp.

Have you been in a cave. Run a search on Google for Blaster virus.

Sounds like a virus. Has your friend installed an anti-virus program? It is a requirement when you connect to the internet as you have no protection otherwise. Also a firewall would be good, although not a nescessity on dial-up.
