Is it possible to disable the CDRW software in Windows XP, then use proprietry software such as NERO with InCd, or Roxio with DirectCD

Yes, if you go into "control panel", "performance and maintenance", "administrative tools" and select the shortcut to "services" you will get a list of all XP's services that run in the background. By scrolling down the page you will see "IMAPI CD Burning" If you right click on this and select properties you can disable it. This should stop XP's built in CD writing feature. Then just install Nero or Roxio and off you go.

I have bothe installed and use them each for different reasons - If I just want to copy a file to a disk then I use Xp. If there is a complation or something a little more demanding then Nero.

Are you having compatibility issues that makes you want to remove the built in feature then?

Thank you, now running the way I like it. As a "wrinkly surfer", I keep going up the learning curve, but like to keep some things I am used to.
