XP Boot sector corrupt

My XP Pro system is generally OK but from time to time will not boot. I am now adept at booting from CD, repair console, FIXBOOT (says boot sector is corrupt and re-writes it) then exit to boot OK. Any suggestions why boot sector should be corrupt from time to time with no apparent cause?

Try using chkdisk to see if there are any bad sectors on the drive.

Also go to the drives manufacturers website to see if they have any diagnostic software.

Thiredly have you got and run an updated antivirus lately?
