XP Boot problem

Hi everyone,
I have just bought a new computer with Windows XP SP2 pre-installed.
I set it up, it booted up o.k and I went through all the registration process etc. and closed down.
The next night I tried to boot up but the system only reaches the Windows XP screen and then the monitor switches off, to the amber light.
This now happens continually, and I havn't managed to use the new computer at all yet.
The monotor is O.K as it still works when coupled back into the old machine.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Ralph

I have just bought a new computer with Windows XP SP2 pre-installed.

If under guarantee return it.

TRY
booting to safe mode by pressing tapping F8 after the first screen. CAn you get to safe mode?

Thanks fruit bat, I managed to boot in safe mode but exactly the same thing happened.
Looks like a return to base, unless anyone has other ideas.

if its new and under warrenty follow Fruit Bat's /\0/\ advice no point in fiddling about with it any number of things could be causing the problem and a wrong move may void the warrenty
