Does anyone know how to disable this function on start up?

Start, Run, type in

control userpasswords2

and click OK.

On the Users tab untick "Users must enter a username and password..."

How do you do this in W98 - above does not work and cannot see any similat options in Control panel/passwords etc.

A pc I have running 98 always asks for a password but just pressing Enter bypasses it. However, it is annoying!!!

Do a search for */.pwl which is your password file and delete it, but be aware that it deletes ALL your passwords, so next time you connect to the net you will have to re-enter your password information. Reboot and when Windows prompt for a password, leave it blank and press enter, after which it should not ask for a password again.

Thanks - got it.
Jim - I don't think the / should be there -could not raise anything but then used *.pwl and up it came. This was confirmed in the link suggested by Spikeychris.
