xp boot failure

Help... my notebook has died... well, it boots up but when the desktop loads it just hangs.
I've tried to boot from my restore cd, but i cant do that either, even after changing the boot order.
Tried to boot into safe mode and use system restore but after eventually persuading it to start, it took 9 hours to get to 25pc so i stopped it and tried again, but it's just not doing anything.
Does anyone have any ideas before this lovely, smart, six month old lappy takes its first flying lesson???

do you have a warranty from your supplier or the manufacturer ?

If you try and fix it yourself they may invalidate the warranty.

There is a warranty with it but i dont really want to take it in unless i am sure there could be a hardware failure.
i was hoping to restore it back a few days using a cmd line but i dont know how it can be done.
